TEXT: 2 Tim. 3:1-7
MEMORY VERSE: Now the spirit speakest expressly that in the latter time some shall depart from their faith giving heed to seducing spirit and doctrines of devils, (1 Tim. 4:1)
INTRODUCTION
All the past ages proceeding this generation have been evil in their character but our present age is the most evil of all ages that have come.
This is because Satan usurper “god of this age” is angry 2 Corinthians 4:4. Apostle Paul in Galatians 1:4 calls this generation “this present evil”. Satan knows that he was judge when Christ died and resurrected Jn. 12:13 and that someday at the second coming of Christ, he will be cast out from his place of government authority over the earth, thus he is working feverishly and continually to do all the damages that he can to God’s kingdom by all possible and subtle means. Also his time is short, since we are expecting the rapture.
However, true believers in this evil age have turned from “the wisdom of this age” 1 Cor. 2:6-7 and from the ungodly and worldly lust of this age, Titus 2:12 and the no longer work according to the course of this age, Eph. 2:2, so they are in constant warfare with the ruler of the darkness of this age, Eph. 6:12.
SOME EVIL ASSOCIATED WITH THIS AGE
- Coming Of Perilous Time (2 Tim. 3:17): - The word Perilous here means exceeding fierce, hard, difficulty, grievous i.e. by the devil. Thus in this last days, Satan is attempting to turn this world into his own personal graveyard by causing men to become:-
(i) Lovers of themselves, pleasures and money, covetous incontinent (no control of appetites and passion).
(ii) Boastful proud, high minded.
(iii) Unholy, profane, without piety.
(iv) Blasphemers; false accusers, slanders, adversary despiser's of men.
(v) Unthankful, without natural affection, traitor, truce breakers.
(vi) Disobedience to parent; heady, adamant, stiff-necked, reckless fierce.
(vii) Having a form of godliness; their religion is only in their creeds and formal confession of faith in their hearts.
(viii) Denying the power of godliness; they hold information without illumination.
2. Increase In Lawlessness And Iniquity (2 Timothy 2:6-10):-
(i.) Use their show of piety to gain entrance into homes to deceive.
(ii.) Capture for their own pleasure, silly women whom they deceive.
(iii.) Every learn fallacies but never have the knowledge of the truth.
(iv.) Resist truth and have corrupt minds.
3. Increase Of Evil Men And Seducers (2 Timothy 3: 13):-
(i.) Men become evil and seduce women i.e. Entice them to surrender chastity.
(ii.) They wax worse and worse.
(iii.) They deceive and he themselves deceived,
4. Departure From Faith (1 Timothy 4:1-5). Many professing Christians;
(i.) Revolt, refrain or withdraw from the faith they had.
(ii.) Give held to seducing spirit; seducers are deceiving by the demons that seduce men i.e. lead astray; draw into evils; especially entice to surrender chastity.
(iii.) Give heed to doctrines of devils; these are doctrines that dawn the soul; social gospels; preaching and interpreting the words of God to soothe the lustful hearts. Such denies the basic doctrines of sin, repentance, regeneration, sanctification, salvation, heaven and hell etc.
(iv.) Speaks lies in hypocrisy: speakers of lies in pretended revelation; and acting self denial and mortification of the flesh in order to prove their false doctrines to be truth.
(v.) Have the conscience searched with a hot iron dead conscience.
(vi.) Forbid to marry; seducing spirits influence people to hinder and operate against wedlock by enticing them to meet the demands of the sex drive apart from sanctity of marriage e.g. Homosexuality, Lesbianism, Fornication, Masturbation, etc.
(vii.) Commands to abstain from meat.
5. Turning Of Peoples Ear From The Truth (2 Timothy 4:34). Now Christians are:-
(i.) Unable to endure sound doctrines.
(ii.) Increasing in lust and sins.
(iii.) Add one teacher to another or gad about from church to church to find those who will not insist on their getting rid of sins and sinful pleasures.
(iv.) Having itching ears, desire speakers who will tickles their ears and excuses their passion in the name of religion.
(v.) Turn away their ears from truth which strips them of sins and demands their wholehearted consecration to Christ.
(vi.) Turn to fable (anything delivered by word of mouth) and false religion that pamper the flesh and condone sin.
6. Apostasy: - This means falling away from truth and morality. 2 Thess. 2:3.
7. Coming Of False Teachers; False Prophets And Scoffers Among Christians, (2 Peter 2:1-3), Their characteristics are:-
(i.) They cunning and secretly teach heresies of destruction that will dawn the soul.
(ii.) They denied the Lord in their action and deed.
(iii.) They follow their lasciviousness and their lusts of the flesh.
(iv.) They speak evil of the truth.
(v.) In order to get money to spend to their own lust, they fabricate counterfeit doctrines false theories and pretended miracle to deceive.
Note: God predicted their punishment long ago and their punishment long ago and their damnation is sure, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, Philippians 3:18-19.
8. Persecution Of The Saints, War And Murdering, Matthew 10:21-22, 2 Timothy3:12.
9. Scoffers And Mockers, 2 Peter 3:3-7, Jude 1:8.
Conclusion: - Have you been entangle with any or many of these evils? Have you have being ignorant of what is happening now in the world or ignorant of this time? Examine yourself very well and return back to God; calling upon him for forgiveness and grace.
